Celebrating the Year
The past few weeks have been a celebration of this year's accomplishments. We recognized our seniors on May 5th during the Senior Day program. Scholarships were presented on May 7th, our Awards Day presentation was May 14th, and graduation was held on May 19th. Each of these events reminded us of our students' hard work and the dedication of our faculty, staff and parents. While the end of the year activities can be exhausting, they are equally rewarding. I wish the 2014 graduates the very best, and hope that MHS students have a great summer break!

Great Week
PARCC testing, Iowa test, EOC tutoring, track meet, softball, baseball, State Quiz Bowl competition and PROM.....what a week!!! None of these activities and accomplishments would be possible without a great group of students, dedicated teachers and coaches, hard working parents, and a supportive district administration. Thanks to all our stakeholders that helped make this past week such a success. Keep your running shoes on and your attitudes willing because the spring frenzy has only just begun.

MHS
NEWS
The first semester of the 2013-2014 school year has flown
by and we are already mid-way through the third nine weeks. Semester one has been successful with a 94%
average student attendance and other note worthy accomplishments.
Semester one saw our school recognized by the OEM as a
high achieving high school and one of the top schools in the state for growth
in EOC geometry scores. We had several
teachers secure classroom grants this semester, and our students have performed
well both academically and in extra-curricular events such as Quiz Bowl and
athletic competitions.
The second semester at high school is always very busy
with EOC testing and year end activities.
I would encourage all students and parents to check the school calendar
on the district website frequently for dates and times of important
events. After school tutoring for EOC
English and Algebra I is already underway, and geometry tutoring will begin
soon. Please encourage your child to
attend all EOC tutoring, and feel free to call his/her teacher or the office if
you have any questions about this program.
In addition to the after-school program, I want to remind
parents about our Do Not Disturb Days and inform you that we are beginning a
vocabulary word of the day study. We
encourage you to make every effort to help us protect instructional time during
DND days and to take part in our vocabulary word review. Your
input and involvement is important to us at MHS, and we encourage you to become
involved in helping us be the best that we can be.
MHS Theme for the year…..Cooperate with others; compete with
yourself!
